Feng Shui - Creating Balance Using Yin and Yang

Do you feel uncomfortable in your home and can't pinpoint what it is? Well, in order for your environment to nourish you, there needs to be a balance of yin and yang energy throughout your living and working spaces. Although considered artistic looking to some, dramatic architecture and design using an abundance of angular shapes can result in a Feng Shui nightmare. The more extreme the yin or yang is in a design, the more uncomfortable it will be for the people living or working there.

Now just think about balancing the two extremes. In your environment, you don't want things to be too hot or too cold, too dark or too light, too high or too low, too small or too large. For instance, a home that has very high ceilings, all white walls, big picture windows, and plain light-colored furniture would be too yang and the people living there would miss the cozy, comfortable feeling of home. On the other hand, if a room was very dark, had low ceilings, floral fabrics and furniture with all curved, rounded edges the room will feel cave-like and too yin.

Some Yin qualities are feminine, dark, soft, curved, rounded, small, low, floral, and ornate. Some Yang characteristics are masculine, light, hard, straight, angular, large, high, geometrical, and plain. Here's an exercise. Go through your home and/or office and use this yin/yang list to determine whether there are any dominant qualities. If so, decide what you need to add or eliminate from the space to create a feeling of more balance.

When I Am an Old Woman, I Shall Wear Purple

Why purple you ask?

Purple is a symbol of:nobility, spirituality, royalty, courage, death, sacredness, wealth, virtue and faith.I see purple as the colour of life, of passion, of storms and of warmth.

I found this book while sitting in the office of an old friend.I was hooked with the very first story!I fell in love with every word that was written and every story told. Some of these stories brought tears to my eyes while others made me laugh out loud.It provoked thought and allowed me to place myself in the shoes of each old woman.Through these women I thought of my own grandmothers, my mother and then ultimately, myself. What happens to us as we get older? Why do some of us travel through old age gracefully while others curse and fight it the entire way?

Through a series of short stories and poems by various authors, this book introduces its readers to many old women and their personal stories of each journey, (known best by each author), who descriptively allows us a glimpse inside of each life with feelings and details that draws us in.Along with some of these stories are photographs of older women who clearly show their character, laugh lines, their frown lines and their own personal unique sense of style. What becomes of some of us in our old age is comical while with others you all you can see is the incredible loneliness and struggle.

It gives some honest descriptions of how others view the aging process, what becomes of an aging population, and how it affects our families. The Hospitals, nursing homes, home care, etc.How our roles reverse slowly through our life time with those that care for us.

It gave me a clearer view of aging with more respect, knowledge and compassion. It gave me renewed interest and love for my own grandmother and all the stories she would tell me over and over again as though she had never told them before. She would pull me onto her knees; even as an adult and tell me she loved me.When she saw me, she still saw that 5 year old little girl inside me and I loved that. She would laugh through her stories until she had to remove her glasses to wipe her tears. She's been gone from this world for 14 years and I still miss her dearly.

This is one of those books that you will love for many years. As you get older and a little closer to wearing purple, it provokes so many thoughts of our own lives and what stories we will have to tell.

Everyone has a story.

One day I will tell mine and hopefully someone will be listening.

"In my old age, I too will proudly wear purple. You will recognize me from the others by the volume of my voice, my loud laughter, my bright orange handbag and the glass of red wine in my hand!"

Landscape Gardening - Feng Shui With Foliage

Landscaping your garden can make a vast difference not only to its appearance but also to the value of your property if you are putting it on the market.

There are some very gifted gardeners out there but generally landscaping work would need to be carried out by specialist contractors. Not only do they bring their years of experience to the project but perhaps even more importantly all their expensive equipment, not to mention their discounts at all the local gardening retailers.

What features might you include in your newly fashioned garden?

Water landscaping or water features are very popular, whether it is a pond, fountain or something else of that ilk. Obviously with ponds and other such water features a degree of excavation work is normally involved and this is best handled by expert professionals.

Gates, trellises and arches are also amongst some of the more popular features in a well landscaped garden. Even fencing may be found under this category. Design is important to make your garden look balanced and beautiful. Why not discuss your own design ideas with a landscaping professional to see just what is possible and perhaps discover what unseen potential your garden may have.

Every garden is different but especially here in the United Kingdom, usually the predominant colour is green. Trees, shrubs and lawns for that matter form such a large part in British gardens and the planting and arranging of these trees and shrubs is yet another vital ingredient in the landscaper's arsenal.

Perhaps you will have concrete patios or block paving in amongst the lawns and foliage or pathways winding through some trees or leading to a garden pond teeming with wildlife.

The experts will be able to tell you which trees will suit your particular garden and whether your ground is suitable for certain species of shrubs and trees. Knowing how quickly the plants and trees grow, which nutrients they need and how much light they need are all considerations that the landscaping experts will be able to advise you with.

Quality landscaping professionals should be able to show you examples or a portfolio of their work to date. Where do you get your own ideas from? Well unless you have your plans already, magazines, books and even online searches can assist you in making your choices for that dream garden.

It is only when you have your ideas and plans in place and have discussed them with your chosen landscaping company that you can assess the cost and most efficient ways of achieving your gardening goals.

Producing a beautiful garden involves hard work and planning, landscaping experts can offer a wealth of information and guidance. Jules researches and writes for website SEO company sigma web.

What Does the Acai Berry Taste Like and Why All the Talk About Them?

The word is out that the acai berry is one of the most wonderful fruits found in the rain forests in Amazon, Brazil. One of the big questions is "what does the acai berry taste like"? Since this fruit dwells in the amazon rain forest we can be sure that it is pure and clean. And since it is extremely perishable we are not going to be having the actual berries as toppings on ice cream or cereal.

The acai berry is very popular today in many forms. There are drinks, smoothies, powders and even capsules. It contains many vitamins and nutrients. It is well known for its high antioxidant content. It is also said to give one a lot of energy. It is a healthy solution to perking one up for the day as comparison with all the synthetic energy boosters on the market today.

Generally, the acai berry has been described as tasting like a fine mixture of berries and chocolate. For most people, that is a good combination and something they are willing to try.

The question, what does the acai berry taste like, could be impacted by the actual product that you are using. For example, there are many acai berry products out there which includes drinks and powders. This in turn will add flavors to the drink. The manufacturer can mix other fruits to the drink to change the flavor. Perhaps one day you feel like a raspberry shake and the next day you are in the mood for banana.

You will more than likely be able to find the flavor of your choice. One could even try a chocolate acai berry smoothie. Imagine drinking something really delicious and also extremely healthy.

Home Handyman

Home handymen are professionals who do varied kinds of jobs in domestic households related to electrical installations, plumbing, house renovation, house cleaning, and small construction works. Many home handymen are self-employed and are paid on an hourly basis whereas others work for a contractor or organization that pays fixed monthly salaries.

Home handyman provide assistance in carrying out small to medium level household repair and maintenance jobs such as remodeling the kitchen or bathroom, finishing the attic or basement, installing drywall or ceramic tile, hanging shelves, and building a deck or fence. These jobs are too small for hiring a full time contractor and are normally completed with the assistance of a handyman.

Home handyman use different types of tools and equipment for carrying out their activities. These tools may include insulated tools for carrying out electrical works that can withstand voltage in the range of 1000 volts to 1500 volts. Other tools may include pliers, screwdrivers, knives, scissors, bolt cutters, cable cutters, and hammers. Bags that carry these accessories are made from a combination of cotton cloth, leather, and other strong material to make it long lasting.

How a Home Generator Can Benefit You

Why do I need a generator? Does this sound like a question you may have asked yourself? Or better yet, how do I know which generator is right for me? In today's world, there are many "businesses" that will sell you a solution when there isn't a problem, or worse yet, the wrong solution for a big problem. Learn how to be sure this doesn't happen to you as well as understand some of the things to study when you decide to protect your investment with a backup generator.

When looking to protect your home, you should not always look at the bottom line upfront. There is such a thing as being penny wise and dollar foolish. Some "Dealers" and I use this term loosely will tell you that you only need the smallest unit on the market in order to protect your 5,000 square foot home with your M.R.I. machine neatly nested away in your basement next to the power switch to your own private airport.. Now granted, I am exaggerating quite a bit here, but I have seen some crazy installations in my time that were done by people who were supposed to be licensed electricians. Now understand before I proceed with this article, I am not trying to throw you some crazy sales pitch for some ocean front property, but rather explain some of the key differences in what seems to be an extremely confusing process. Let me start out by categorizing home generators by mobility. There are two levels of mobility. Portable, and then permanently installed. I will not cover the portables in this article since the majority of Americans do not purchase them any more simply because they have a hard time efficiently powering the modern home.

This leaves the permanently installed units which are composed of two categories:
Air-Cooled- This option is the answer to near 90% of the homes the average person owns. They are low maintenance, and usually fully automatic. An air cooled unit will typically provide between 7 kW of electricity to 20 kW of electricity. These types of units will start themselves one time per week to "exercise" and then shut off within 15 minutes and return to sleep until the next week. When the power goes out, the generator will start up on its own, transfer power via a transfer switch, power the appropriated portions of your home until utility power returns, then retransfer power when utility power returns and shut itself back off. This is a very straightforward approach for most people's homes and like I said, will work 90% of the time. These units also save you the headache of refueling since they run off you the fuel supply your home already uses... Either Natural Gas or Propane.

Liquid-Cooled- This is an option for small businesses, larger homes, and properties where long term power outages are frequent. Liquid-Cooled Generators offer all the benefits of an Air-Cooled Unit but produce electricity from 18kW and up. These units are typically powered by an automotive engine and therefore are designed to produce more power, and run for longer periods of time with lower maintenance costs. Liquid-Cooled units are a higher price up front, but sometimes are the only smart option. Such as when you are living in a multi-million dollar home with exotic electrical features such as radiant flooring, heated swimming pools, and multiple large air conditioning units on various furnaces. in cases such as this, lets face the facts... would you put your life savings in a shoebox? Conventional insurance is a product that only helps you when its already too late, and still costs you a deductible and lost treasured items. A generator is an insurance policy in its own right, and can actually lower your homeowners policy as much as 20% in some areas.

I hope this has been some information to help you understand the differences in generators for this article. I look forward to answering any questions you may have on this subject, and if you are in the Chicago Area, feel free to contact Tru-Power Electric at 630-235-2397, or email me at brian@trupowerelectric.com. Financial Incentives for Using Solar Power in Your Home

It is undeniable that energy prices are going through the roof. Just take a look at your utility bill. The good news is using solar power can save your bank account, particularly with new incentives.

Personal Tax Credit and Deductions

If anything is more aggravating than exploding energy costs, its your tax bill. New and established government programs let you attack both by going solar. The first method is by simply saving money on taxes. If you install a solar energy system on your home, the federal government is going to give you a tax credit of up to $2,000. Tax credits reduce your tax liability dollar for dollar unlike deductions which are subtracted from your gross income. A majority of states now also offer tax credits you can use when paying state taxes. Each state handles the matter differently, but you can expect to get a credit for a percentage of your installation cost or a fixed figure.

Net Metering

Net metering is a concept that has resulted in exploding sales in the solar energy industry. Net metering refers to state laws that require utilities to purchase power generated from your residential solar system at the same price the utilities would otherwise charge you for electricity. In effect, net metering lets you use the utility company as a battery. While you are at work during the day, your solar system sends energy to the utility and your power meter actually runs backwards. When you come home at night and use power, the power meter runs forward. All and all, net metering will either slash or completely eliminate your utility bill. With solar panel systems having a life of 40 years, think how much money youll save! While a majority of states have net metering laws, not all do. Make sure to check if yours does.

Property Tax Incentives

Property taxes. How we all hate paying property taxes. Well, many states now provide exemptions, exclusions or credits for homes with solar power. Each state handles this issue differently, so look into the potential savings in yours.

Rebate Programs

To promote solar energy, rebate programs are offered to homeowners by states and utilities. Again, the characteristics of such programs vary wildly, but typically come in the form of rebates ranging from a couple hundred bucks to $4,000 or more.

With your utility bills going through the roof, it is time to consider steps you can take to save money. The economic benefits of going solar have never been better, which makes now the time to convert.

The Essence of a Marketing Manager in a Home Improvement Company

So you want to hire a Marketing Manager. Someone suggests you go to a headhunter or a dot com site. You get inundated with resumes from those with degrees in marketing or those with marketing backgrounds in major corporations - ad nauseam. Unfortunately, most of these applicants cannot fill the job.

The most appropriate applicant as a Marketing Manager for a lead based home improvement company has usually worked for a company with "in home" salespeople. They have a feel for what will pull leads in various advertising mediums; they understand the kind and quality of leads the company needs, as well as the kind and styles of the salespeople who will be issued the lead. A Marketing Manager in the home improvement business has the responsibility of keeping the lead pipeline full.

The ideal Marketing Manager will have to understand budget limitations, lead issuance and control factors and, above all, that leads are a precious commodity. Most leads are obtained expensively, and once acquired remain viable until your company or a competitor sells the product of interest to the prospect. Your Marketing Manager has to understand database management, confirmation and rehash scripting, how to negotiate with the media, event sources and S.F.I. relationships with big box and other similar "brand" sources. If a call center is involved, the ability to hire, train and supervise others is a necessity.

None of the above obviates the possibility that you won't find "a diamond" without the experience defined. However, prepare yourself for training and control in the early stages because Marketing Managers in home improvement organizations are still an enigma.

Cues: Write the job description before you hire. Detail issues such as: what performance is expected, what budget to maintain (including the cost of the marketing manager) along with territory and product limitations. Compensate with a base salary and incentives for meeting budget requirements. Finally, evaluate these 3 considerations regarding the applicant: Can they do the job? Will they do the job? Do they fit?

Concrete Resurfacing Unique Solutions For Your Next Home Improvement Project - 5 Reasons Why

Did you know that concrete resurfacing may be the answer to some of your most challenging home improvement projects? Resurfacing, which is a thin overlay process, is generally known for its application on driveways, patios and outdoor living spaces, but that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Custom colors and textures can be applied to almost any surface from ceilings to floors and everything in between. Just think of the possibilities for your most challenging projects...out dated floors and counter tops, vintage kitchens and bathrooms, surfaces needing patching or repair work, damaged walls and ceilings to name a few! Cosmetic repairs can be integrated into the design. The concrete-acrylic coatings are applied directly over existing surfaces including and not limited to the following:

v Existing Tile

v Linoleum

v Painted surfaces

v Old paneling

Creative resurfacing provides a practical way to enjoy, natural looking surfaces that are in many ways better than real stone or tile. These expensive looking surfaces are a fraction of the cost that you would pay for granite or tile.

These surfaces are durable, created to resist stains, mildew and most chemicals, fading from sunlight (UV) and are engineered to cure at nearly 8,000 P.S.I (that's three times the rating of traditional concrete.)

The process is quick and easy, projects can be completed in days rather weeks or months.

Flexibility in using this process is virtually endless from color, to design and texture applications ; every project is a one of kind work of art...more than just beautiful and durable, resurfacing offers solutions that are versatile. Any of our design applications can be resurfaced or colored at any time so that you're not stuck with the same look if you don't want to!

Grandparenting - Keeping Up With the Little Ones

One of my great delights is spending time with my two grandchildren ages 4 and 2. They are bundles of energy and can find joy in so many things.

I have found that the better care I take of myself the more I can enjoy my time with them.

Here are a few of the things I do that help me keep up with them.

1. Get regular exercise

I am convinced that being in the habit of walking regularly is keeping me active and energized. It wasn't always so. I would start and stop and berate myself for my lack of discipline. A few years ago I made the decision that it was important for me to stay active as long as possible. Now that I am 70 I want to also stay flexible for which I do Pilates, have a good mind-body balance for which Yoga is good, and lift weights to strengthen my bones.

2. Be with the children in the moment

Children live in the present and that is something we can re-learn from them. We adults can fret about the past or worry about the future and forget to be mindfully present. When the children and I play I enter their world. I marvel at their imagination where reality and fantasy get blurred. I have also learned when to step back and let them play by themselves.

3. Live joyfully

A positive attitude makes life more fun. For the little ones a kiss on a "booboo" fixes it and life resumes. They don't get stuck with ruminating but can shift to what interests them. Fortunately we have control over our attitude and can do the same. Many things that can weigh us down may not be as heavy as we may make them in our minds. A positive attitude and an active body are energizing and make it possible to keep up with the grandchildren.

How Feng Shui Flying Star Can Help You Improve Your Wealth and Health

This aspect of feng shui is not typical within the arsenal of a geomancer expert or a feng shui master. The feng shui flying star revolves around mystery and is the child of mythology, superstition and historical fact. Said to be gifted from Mother Nature herself and originally written on the back of a giant Chinese turtle, the flying star sports the 'Lo Shu' diagram, or the nine numbers diagram that changes and rotates in response to many variables of time.

This article will give you an insight on how the feng shui flying star can help you improve your wealth and health.

The flying star model has nine numbers and each of the diagrams has a colour that is representing it. Some of them even come with elemental symbols but that feature is pretty rare in feng shui circles.

From white to purple, one to nine, this colourful ancient diagram is not just a spectrum's afterthought; it is also a key and a compass to enhancing energies in any space to improve wealth and health. Its power and potential is great and if used properly, could be the tool to transform lives.

How this works is that the flying star and the eight sided map (ba gua) that geomancers use work together. By combining the two messages that these items will speak to you to, you can harmonise a place and the elements in it.

Make sure both are pointed in the right direction and the flying star will highlight the spaces in your house according to the colour of the diagrams in relation to the ba gua map. Looking at this blueprint for continued luck, all you have to do is match the flying star with different elements in relation to the colour the number it represents.

For example, if the flying star on 3 (normally symbolised by the colour green) points to the south west corner of your house, then all you have to do is place an element of a plant, or anything that sports the corresponding colour, shape or material. Feng shui flying stars can be symbolised by different objects with different properties as well. If you are unsure, contact your local geomancer and they should be able to help.

Some typical items are fishbowls, portraits, wind chimes, sources of water or even zodiacal flying star symbols. It may seem complicated at first, but as you learn more about the significance of the flying star, and how you can use objects to empower your space to absorb and retain more good energy, as well as balance the masculine and feminine energies (yin & yang) - you will experience more harmony as well as health and wealth.

You must also know that flying stars change with time, so it is all about mathematics and knowing the seasons of change. This is important to ensure your energies are in harmony and you won't one day walk into a cyclone of turbulent 'Chi' dragging you and your life down into an unending spiral of bad luck.

Once you get the hang of it, the feng shui flying star is unparalleled in bringing about good luck, health and wealth and with it you will see your life rocket into success, break the stratosphere and become a bright shooting star.

Your Feng Shui Garden?

Feng Shui is the oldest form of gardening dating back many millennia to China. The fundamental traits of Your Feng Shui gardening are:. Feng Shui gardens are built to look as natural as possible. Mixing shapes and sizes is an imperative component in these gardend gardens. The Chi, or cosmic energy, needs to flow openly and smoothly through its vicinity to form harmony and balance in the garden.

The natural flow of energy from a feng shui garden allows for peace and tranquility, but also for keeping your mind focused by 'clearing away the clutter.' When you clear away the clutter in your home, you clear away the clutter in your mind as well. Having a feng shui garden can also be a great way to relax and to really have a chance to enjoy your back yard.

Hanging plants will lift energy or permit energy to flow. It isn't important what sort of unique home decor you have, or what your landscape and garden yard dcor is -- a wind chime will add charm, and can make a delicate sense of this Eastern mystique. Go Green With Finances

The very first thing I want to say here is that we are not our debt, our house, our cars or all of the things we purchase; we are Moms, Dads, Daughters, Sons, Grandparents who are living the best life that we can with love and purpose. Debt is something that happened along that path.

So now we take that debt and look at it objectively and realistically and don't beat ourselves up about it; while at the same time we sort it out and figure out the best way to deal with it.

The most important thing to do is figure out where you can cut back on expenses on a daily basis, look at your daily expenses; and that goes for everyone in the family. Come up with all the daily "goodies" you can live without, make a list of them. Then list all your monthly bills and see what can be reduced, eliminated and modified. This should be a family affair so that everyone can see that everyone is modifying expenditures.

Start coupon clipping, take advantage of mid-week restaurant specials, shop for sales and specials, make your own lunches, use the library for books, videos and magazines, take shorter showers (set a timer), turn off lights, unplug not in use appliances etc etc, get low energy light bulbs, turn the air and heat down, organize errands, revamp cable service and phone service (maybe you don't need a land line); just look at all of your out go and as a family see where you can cut back.

Call all your credit cards and see if they will reduce their interest rates, or see if they have a zero interest rate promotion.

Vacation in your own yard and invite friends, neighbors and relatives over for a theme party and have everyone bring a dish that compliments the theme. Celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions the same way and all together, rather than separate functions and going somewhere.

Check to see if you can downsize your car to something less expensive or more environment green. Ride your bikes more if you live in an area that works, bikes can be ridden to the store for last minute shopping items, to a friends house, to church activities and if not, encourage carpooling as much as possible.

Recycle as much as possible and turn in what is payable for cash and put it into an entertainment fund. Go to dollar night movies and eat right before you go so theatre snacking isn't a temptation.

Whatever you do don't panic or ignore it and hope it goes away, be realistic and aware. Know this does not make you a bad person to have money and debt issues, it is just something that happened while you were doing life and now you are going to become aware of it and figure out the best way to handle it, as a family together.

Inerrancy of the Bible - Are There Mistakes in the Bible

What does the word inerrancy main? Inerrancy would refer to text that is accurate and totally free of any errors or without any mistakes. Does this sound like any book that you have ever read or have knowledge of. Maybe there is a one sentence book that could fall into this category.

Most books however and even this article has mistakes. If I made a decision to base my life, my entire life and that of my children and grandchildren, I would want to make sure that it was accurate as possible.

Is the Bible, 100%, 90%, or even 50% accurate. Are these stories that were written by people many years ago and the lessons have been helpful but now need to be rewritten.

Does the Bible actually contain the will of God? Some scholars believe that certain sections of the Bible meet this criteria while others do not. How can these people judge if they are not God and how can we believe in this stuff is not true.

If the Bible was inspired by God but written by men, this could actually mean that God had complete control over writing the Bible or does this mean that the man wrote the Bible with gods inspiration. I'm inspired by God daily and often write about it, but don't seem to have enough followers to make it into the biblical Hall of Fame. I'm writing with inspired beliefs right now.

If there are errors in the Bible, how extensive or how many errors are there actually. There are actual stories that can be documented as historical facts. This doesn't mean the rest of the Bible is factual, nor does it mean it is historically inaccurate.

The Bible has some errors in it and some facts that we can prove but leaves us with the question, is this a book from the Creator of the universe or a book written by men, to make us believe, it was written by God and if so why are we still believe being in it. Why do some people read this book and other religious text daily? What motivates them to read holy Scripture regularly but doesn't seem to allow them enough time to find out if they are reading accurate information.

The biggest problem I have with the inerrancy of the Bible is the fact that most people tend to ignore certain truths and cling to their childhood beliefs about religion. If this is not the way or the truth, I would want to start looking for it, instead of following someone else's dreams or religious doctrine.

An Introduction to Feng Shui

An ancient Chinese practice that may have begun around 4000 BCE or earlier, Feng Shui is commonly used in western cultures today to decorate homes and arrange furniture. Many people claim that Feng Shui can affect one's personal relationships, physical well-being, and even finances. However, the practice was traditionally used in China to choose a place to live, a place to be buried, or even for crop arrangement and agricultural planning.

Pronounced "fung-shway" or "fung-shwee" in English, the words "fung shui" are literally translated to mean "wind-water". The practice is believed to promote positive Qi, which can help to improve one's life, by using the laws of heaven and earth. Qi is often translated to mean "energy flow" or the energy that is active in all things.

An early example of the use of Feng Shui in China is Banpo, an archaeological site in the Yellow River Valley, which was discovered in 1953 and is made up of settlements dating back to around 4500 BCE. The doors of dwellings there were astronomically aligned to the winter solstice. Similar alignments have been discovered within ancient ruins elsewhere in the world, so the Chinese were not the only ones using such building practices.

There are numerous classical techniques of Feng Shui, including Bagua, Zi Bai, Ba Zhai, and Qimen Dunjia, all utilizing differing methods and practices. Overall, Feng Shui seems to be based on Taoist principles, an understanding that nature is full of energy and very alive.

Practice of Feng Shui incorporates the compass (lo-pan) and the Ba-Gua, a grid in the shape of an octagon which contains I-Ching symbols. I-Ching, Yin and Yang, and the Five Elements are basic principles derived from Taoism and play a large part in the practice of Feng Shui.

Park Your Car in the Garage? What a Novel Idea!

Do you hate running out in the rain to your car? Do you look forward to scraping your windshield in the frost of the morning? Wouldn't it be great to park your car in the safety and warmth of your garage? We organizers always think it's interesting on how a valuable investment, such as a car, sits on the street, vulnerable to theft and wear, while the garage interior houses all sorts of things that are worth - not that much...

Now is the time to take advantage of the last few days of clear skies. If you jump on this opportunity you can prep yourself for a stress free winter.

Here's how:

Pick a day for a family garage-a-palooza. Invite an organizer, friends and/or family to help. Schedule a pick up or drop off with a friendly donation organization. When the day arrives, eat a hardy breakfast, get dressed up in your grubbiest clothes and grab the tools -- empty boxes, garbage bags, tape and markers for labeling. Take a quick stretch to get warmed up for the big job ahead.

Ok! Ready, set and go! Set aside staging areas for trash, donate and keep. Labeling them with duct tape on the ground helps keep you focused. Begin at one corner of the garage. Ask yourself questions like "Do I need this", "Do I LOVE this", and "Do I use this". Keep in mind the last time you used a particular object - if it was more than a year ago it is probably safe to say goodbye. Remember, your reward will be huge! Consider this; how long has "clean up the garage" on your "to do" list?

Once you have cleared, sorted and had your donations and trash items picked up, it is time to put the "keep" items back. When it comes to garage - think vertical. Tall shelving units like post industrial shelving will allow you to take advantage of the ALL the wall space. Clear bins for storage will save your stuff from the mold and dampness of many garages as well as giving you a visual reminder of its contents. And don't forget to label, label, label. There are also many storage solutions for tools and bikes available at home improvement stores and organizing stores.

Sweep the garage down, hang some hooks for extra winter coat storage, check that all the lights are as bright as they can be and congratulate yourself! Whew, what a great feeling - no more freezing fingers and late mornings this winter! And your vehicle has a clean, safe home, perhaps for the first time!

Elemental to Feng Shui

An essential part of Chinese Feng Shui suggests that each element must be paid attention to at all costs. The elements consist of:

Fire-the color red and located in the North part of a space
Water-the color black and located in the South part of a space
Wood-the color green and located in the East part of a space
Earth-the color yellow/oranges and located in the Center of a space
Metal-the color white/grey and located in the West part of a space

It's is fairly simple to incorporate these elements in your office or your home. Start with selecting candles in the colors of fire, water, wood, earth then you can include the metal element if you utilize a metal tray to display your items. I encourage you to bring in other decorative pieces that represent each element color to create balance within the environment.

Arrange them in a manner that looks best and just make sure all five elements are present. If you are placing them in the living room, the coffee table area would work well. If you are placing them in an office, they can be located on a shelf or a counter area.

I also suggest bringing into your space reflective elements that will catch your eye when you walked in the room. Always pay attention to the colors of the items that you bring into home or office.

You should take into consider what the space will be used for before you start your Feng Shui. Once you determine the purpose for the room, you can follow these tips.

Living Room-upbeat energy, stronger colors, increased lighting.
Bedroom-low energy, softer colors, low lighting
Office Area-upbeat energy, colors that work for you. If your job evolves around creativity, bring in colorful artwork to inspire you daily. If you are the accountant, then use a color with enough energy in it to complete your tasks daily. The softer colors have the lower energy and the deeper, darker colors have more energy.

Feng Shui has many rules to follow, however working with the elements is key to the art. Start incorporating the elements into your spaces today in a way that is comfortable and enjoyable to you!

Eco Surface Paint And Finishes

Interior design paint choices can be difficult. This article will look at each type of eco and natural paint, giving you the low down on each so that you can make an informed decision. Some paints and finishes claim to be natural, organic or non-toxic. As with all claims of eco-friendliness, be careful when choosing finishes as there are currently no legal requirements for manufacturers regarding toxic chemical content.

The following list looks at natural and eco interior paint ideas for your walls and ceilings:

Eco interior paint ideas - First choice

Linseed oil based paint

Linseed comes from the flax plant is an ideal resource that is renewable, sustainable and readily available. Some sources are found in by-products from the food industry. The content of linseed oil in paints can vary with some types that are made with 100%. Any pigments which are added do not contain solvents and are natural. The product lifetime can exceed synthetic paint types by up to one third. Suitable for interior and exterior applications. Paint will age and colours will fade over time. This can be restored with a coat of new linseed oil.

Eco interior paint ideas - Second choice

Wood and vegetable oil based paint

Made from natural elements such as soya bean oils, oak bark and madder root - readily available and renewable materials. Vegetable based pigments fade over time. Natural VOCs are released from natural resins like turpentine and citrus oils - these VOCs are not as toxic as traditional synthetic paint. Low levels of embodied energy.

Casein, protein, distemper, milk based paint

An old fashioned interior paint mix made from milk protein and lime. Materials are non chemical, renewable and readily available. The product comes in powder form, to be mixed when needed. The casein/milk acts as the binder. Raw materials are a non renewable resource extracted through quarrying, which destroys the surrounding natural environment. Application may cause skin and eyes sensitivity as lime is a known irritant. Some sources are found in by-products from the food industry. Suitable for interior and exterior applications. A breathable, water based and non toxic paint. Multiple coats are needed for an opaque finish. Milk paint is not appropriate for damp environments as this causes the paint to flake. The finish is washable, matt, soft and chalk like.

Clay based paint

Natural clay is a readily available and non toxic resource. Available in a small variety of colours. Finish is entirely breathable and has very good natural anti fungal and anti static properties. Entirely breathable finish which helps humidity and trapped moisture levels. Available in flat matt or textured wall effects. Good anti-static properties. A naturally non drip paint without polyurethane. Low levels of embodied energy.

Stone and mineral paint

A water based paint made from crushed stones and minerals such as limestone, soap stone, quartz sand and dolomite without the use of solvents. Materials are readily available. Mineral pigments are available in bold colours and do not fade as easily as vegetable based paints. Durability on porous surfaces is very high. Good light reflectivity. Interior paint finish is entirely breathable and has very good natural anti-fungal properties. These finishes create the same surface properties found in natural stone. Non combustible. Medium levels of embodied energy.

Lime, lime wash, whitewash, distemper paint

An alkaline powdered chalk or lime based paint which is suited to painting on top of a clay or lime plaster base. Raw materials are a non renewable resource extracted through quarrying, which destroys the surrounding natural environment. Quite a soft finish which can flake. Good anti-fungal properties. A breathable, water based and non toxic paint. Contains very low level of VOCs. Multiple coats are needed for an opaque finish. Application may cause skin and eyes sensitivity as materials are known irritants. Some paints contain acrylic polymers. Cannot be painted on gypsum plaster walls.

Eco interior paint ideas - Third choice

Low-odour, low VOCs or zero VOCs paints

There is some conflicting information surrounding these paints as low odour paints 'seem' to be safe as they do not give off the typical paint smell - leading you into a false sense of security. This does not mean that they are safe, only that a different chemical process has been used. Interior paints which state zero VOCs may well be made with alternative chemical and toxic substances which are not classed as VOCs. Paint which states low VOCs offgas lower levels of chemical vapours than synthetic paints. Both zero and low VOCs paints could have as a negative effect on your health, wellbeing and to the natural environment as traditional synthetic paints do, even though the level of exposure might be reduced. It is important to note that low VOCs still offgas, however the level is lower than with traditional paint types. There are currently no legislations as to what a low or zero VOC paint can contain to be put into this class.

Shellac paint

An interior paint made from natural, renewable and sustainable insect resin which is a by product of the insects draining sap from tree bark. Lac is imported from overseas from regions such as Thailand and India. A quick drying timber varnish which releases low levels of VOC emissions after application. Can suffer from wear and tear easier than other timber finishes. Suitable for low traffic timber flooring areas. When sourcing shellac, check the label for added methanol as this chemical reduces the eco-friendly nature of the product.

Interior wood finish, both eco and natural alternatives to synthetic timber finishes, oils and stains:

Natural wax

Plant based resources such as carnauba, candelilla plants and oils made from sunflower, soya bean and thistle. All materials are renewable, sustainable and readily available. Lower levels of toxic elements and low odour binding solvents - low levels of natural VOCs are released. Excellent stain resistant properties. Microporous products are suitable for interior & exterior applications allowing the timber to breathe. Finishes are naturally transparent and oil-based making them water-repellent. Suitable for interior uses, can be polished to a sheen. Products must cure over a few days before full strength and water resistant properties take effect. Once the wood has been penetrated with the wax, it will not flake, peel or blister.

Natural oils

This finish is made from nuts and seeds such as linseed, soya, coumarone resin and tung oil. All of these renewable, sustainable materials are readily available. Transparent finishes are naturally oil-based making them water-repellent, however less water resistant than synthetic finishes. Suitable for timber flooring and stairs and heavier wear areas as the oils are durable. Flooring oil doesn't contain biocides or preservatives. Can be used on all timber including cork finishes as well as stone and natural tiles. Natural oils are microporous allowing timber to breathe and the oils prevent timber from becoming too dry. Soya oils are quicker drying than linseed oils. Some products contain carcinogens and naturally low levels of VOCs. Two to three times the number of coats needed as well as longer drying times. Low levels of embodied energy due to minimal manufacture. Reapplication is more often than synthetic finishes. Linseed oil alone can be used as a primer for applying wax and great as an eco furniture oil. Once the wood has been penetrated with oil, it will not flake, peel or blister.

Beeswax

A fragrant and abundant resource giving a golden toned finish on timber surfaces. Finishes are naturally oil-based making them water-repellent, however less durable and water resistant than synthetic finishes. Reapplication is more often than synthetic finishes. Once the wood has been penetrated with the wax, it will not flake, peel or blister.

Water based timber finish

Releases low levels of VOCs. The low VOCs content and water based name does not mean that chemical additives & binders have not been used. An odourless and clear finish. Not recommended for flooring applications where heavy wear will occur. Solvent is water based however may contain toxic elements. Lifespan is slightly less than synthetic varnish. No solvents necessary to clean.

Primer, under coat, primer, eggshell, gloss and varnish

Made from renewable and sustainable materials; natural linseed oil and soya. Both microporous materials allowing the timber beneath to breathe. Good moisture resistance and material flexibility. Suits both interior and exterior applications, available in varying strengths. Available in a gloss or satin finish. Natural oil based materials may still offgas VOC emissions within your home.
Interior wood finish; treatments, solvents, strippers and removers:

Borax

A timber treatment with good insect and fungal repellent properties. Made from natural minerals derivatives.

Natural solvents

Natural resin oils, citrus peel and aliphatic solvents release allergens which you may be sensitive to. A fragrant additive which is used in strippers, thinners and paint.

Paint stripper & varnish remover

Water based without the use of solvents suitable for removing water and oil based paints or finishes whether natural or synthetic. Gel paint remover is biodegradable and doesn't contain any corrosive elements.

Interior wood finish to avoid: solvent based such as oil or alkyd

Synthetic ingredients to avoid

The following list of chemical compounds are found in a variety of surface finishes from paints, stains, adhesives, strippers to cleaning agents:

Acrylic resin

Ammonia

Ashphalt chlorobenzene

Ethylene

Kerosene

Formaldehyde

Methylene chloride

Petrol

Polyurethane

Trichloroethylene

Toluene

Vinyl chloride

Xylene

Feng Shui Made Simple

"Feng Shui Made Simple: Room by Room" written by Feng Shui Consultant Sheri Ruston is a great introduction to Feng Shui.

The 76-page ebook is full of practical tips, enhanced with photos and diagrams that anyone with limited knowledge of the ancient Chinese practice can immediately put into action. There are lots of simple tips that you can use that can make a big difference to the overall look and feel to your home.

The author points out that Feng Shui is not merely an ancient art and, perhaps to those not knowledgeable in this field, a somewhat mysterious practice, it's also a science. It has it's origins in quantum physics and so is as much an art as it is a science.

For instance, she explains that just as you can see dust and dirt that collects in your home, energy patterns also exist in your home that affect your health and well-being. So you shouldn't simply vacuum and dust your home. It's also necessary to clear the energy on a regular basis and that there are certain situations that require a space to be "cleared" in a more vigorous manner.

From this ebook it is easy to see that if house builders took Feng Shui into consideration from the planning stages more of our homes would have a better flow, feel more harmonious and have a more positive effect on our health and well being. And builders of luxury developments are incorporating Feng Shui into their architecture and design.

However, while popular among famous people such as Oprah, Steven Spielberg and Donald Trump, Feng Shui is not just for the rich and famous. This ebook highlights some common defects in how some homes are designed or situated, the adverse effects this can cause and what can be done to address these defects short of pulling down the dwelling and re-building.

There is a clear explanation of Black Hat Feng Shui - bagua - a tool which can help in the manifestation of your goals and dreams. Simply put the bagua can be thought of an an "energy map" which can be superimposed over the floor plan of a house or a piece of land. It is divided into 9 areas which can help you understand what is happening in a particular space in relation to your life.

Thankfully, this can be applied to a single room as well as an entire house. This allows one to practice the bagua techniques in a relatively small area before branching out. The disadvantage with the latter approach is that you could end up with a room trying to express too many things.

This ebook not only gives Feng Shui tips for each major room in a house, it also provides tips for the home office as well. Sheri Ruston describes Feng Shui as "a system for arranging your home, workspace and even your property". It therefore makes complete sense that any system that brings greater order to a working environment will help to boost productivity and therefore prosperity as well.

Bob Proctor said he was teaching a seminar once when one of the participants got so excited that he couldn't wait until the end of the seminar to put what he was learning into practice. So he rushed out to put into action the selling strategies he had learnt returning later to report on his success. Similarly, long before you finish reading this ebook you'll be evaluating your own home and more than likely you'll start making changes before you finish reading the text.

For more information about this ebook and to discover for yourself how to give your home a Feng Shui makeover and create a more harmonious, beautiful environment that will enhance the quality of your life and empower you to achieve your goals and dreams visit http://www.FengShuiforHealthyLiving.com

How to Use Chinese Zodiac Compatibility to Predict Your Relationship

Chinese zodiac compatibility is the most popular approach to predict a potential relationship by referring to the man's and woman's Chinese zodiac animals. For example, rat matches ox or monkey, tiger matches dog, rabbit matches pig, dragon matches rooster, snake matches monkey and so on. Ever since the time of ancient China, the above Chinese zodiac matches have been said to be perfect matches, which means the couple could live happily together forever. However, in reality, it doesn't always turn out that way. Among the couples which are supposed to be happy due to the Chinese zodiac compatibility, some of them still quarrel with each other often and even end up divorce. So one may wonder: is the so-called Chinese zodiac compatibility reliable or just for fun?

To deal with the question, we must know the Chinese zodiac origin and the five elements. Chinese Zodiac originates from ancient Chinese chronology of sexagesimal cycle. For easy memorizing, the ancient Chinese symbolized twelve earthly branches with twelve zodiac animals, they are rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. The five elements are fire, earth, metal, water, and wood, each of them generates or creates the next element in a creative sequence. For example, water generates wood, wood generates fire, fire generates earth, earth generates metal, metal generates water. each of the twelve zodiac animals has their own particular features resulting from the five elements. For example, the Zodiac years of dragon, dog, ox, and sheep are of earth. Among them, the years of dragon and ox are of "damp earth", and the years of dog and sheep are of "dry earth".
Because of the different aura fields of the five Elements in each Chinese zodiac year, the people born in a particular year are born to carry the features of the particular aura field, which makes people develop their own personalities. Therefore, the couple might be either mutually compatible or mutually conflicting resulting from different birth years and times. The Chinese zodiac compatibility is actually an inference based on the mutual compatibility and inter-restriction between the Chinese zodiac Animals and the Five Elements. So it has its scientific ground and certain value for reference.

However, the Chinese zodiac compatibility has limitations. Because the couples' personalities, values, and ways of thinking are important factors influencing their relationship, it is not enough to predict a potential relationship merely based on the birth years. Their birth month, date and time must be taken into consideration as well. This is what's called the eight character compatibility (Pibazi). The eight character compatibility readings will be much more accurate and comprehensive than the general Chinese zodiac matches mentioned at the beginning of the article, but it is a very complicated job that can only be done by professional Chinese astrologers. It is rewarding to predict a relationship by referring to Chinese zodiac compatibility and it would be a good idea to consult an expert to make a comprehensive analysis and prediction based on the eight character compatibility.

Yang Ching is a Chinese astrologer, graduated from Tsinghua University Major in Astrology and Divination in Beijing in 1976.She provides personal astrological readings including fortune telling, Chinese zodiac compatibility and Home Feng Shui, please visit her website to view more information about Chinese Zodiac and Feng Shui.

Feng Shui - How to Have Healthy Lighting in Your Home

Proper lighting is one of the Feng Shui cures used for enhancing the chi energy in a space. Light uplifts oppressive energy from low ceilings, transforms the energy in a dark space, elevates the energy in a room, and activates stagnant energy.

Most people spend 90% of their time indoors and, most likely, with poor incandescent or fluorescent lighting. It's great to have natural light shining in, but you need to be aware that windows block some of the wavelengths present in sunshine from reaching your retina and nourishing your brain and body.

Having insufficient lighting in your home is considered bad Feng Shui, and your health and well-being will be impacted. There's compelling research that poor lighting can create depression. This problem grows as the winter months bring shorter and shorter days. Sunlight Starvation affects millions of people and causes the feeling of "Winter Blues." And in more severe cases people develop S.A.D. or "Seasonal Affective Disorder."

There is a solution. Make sure every room in your home is properly lit. Also, change all your bulbs to full spectrum. These powerful light bulbs produce clear, brilliant white light that simulates the exact color of sunlight at noon. There's an overwhelming amount of research showing its positive impact on health, human behavior, learning and longer life. Changing the light bulbs in your home is one of the simplest things you can do to improve your health.

Using full spectrum lighting will:

  • Enhance your mental awareness, concentration and productivity
  • Improve your mood
  • Help with your visual clarity and color perception
  • Improve your sleep
  • Boost your immune system
  • Give you more energy
  • Reduce eye strain and fatigue

Feng Shui Health and Wellness Specialist, Sheri Ruston, can teach you how to create a supportive environment within your home and within your body to dramatically improve your health, well-being and mindset. Feng Shui Your Life For a Happy Year

Whether you're ready or not a new year has arrived. With all it's promise and hope, we have begun a new calendar year.

This is the perfect time to clear the clutter from your home and your life to make sure that 2009 flows the way you want it to.

Living in one place for a long time we tend to gather lots of things that eventually get stuck in drawers and the back of closets, taking up space and filling our homes with "clutter energy".

Clutter Energy is that feeling of unease that seems to be saying, "do something, anything, just DO Something"!

Starting off the new year by clearing out this energy opens the door for a more positive flow of feelings, thoughts and new things to move in.

Start of by committing to release at least 50 things in a 24 hour period.

I know that sounds like a lot, but once you get going you'll discover that it's quick and easy.

Get two boxes or garbage bags, fill one with items that you can donate if you like and the other is just trash.

Start in the "junk drawer" in the kitchen. How much stuff have you crammed there thinking you would eventually use it and never have? Release it and enjoy the feeling that comes with letting go.

Move on to other drawers in the kitchen. Release old butter tubs that you just have too many of.

Got more coffee cups than the cabinets can hold? Let these go as well.

Go through the rest of the house letting go of magazines, stashes of papers and the like.

Next get into your room. Do you have clothes that don't fit, you don't like and haven't worn in over a year? Let em go.

Dig through the closet and the drawers. All socks with holes go into the bag. Undies that ride or scratch, into the bag.

Let go of shoes too. We tend to hold onto things because, "I paid good money for those", or "someone gave these to me".

Let yourself breathe.

As you do the clearing out of physical things from your space be aware of thoughts and habits that you have that don't serve you as well. Are you still holding onto grudges and old hurts and insults? Let these go as you move through the house releasing stuff.

When you have your fifty items in 24 hours and are still on a roll, commit to another fifty. Take on the garage, holiday decorations, etc. Move through the yard and release anything that's just taking up space and not giving you that feel good feeling it did when you first placed it there.

By doing this exercise you are not only creating a better look and feel to your home, you are opening your life to release old emotions, pain and stinking thinking.

When you combine the physical exercise of clearing out stuff with the spiritual aspect of clearing out thinking and feelings, you will restore balance and harmony in your life.

By instilling this process into your thinking for the new year, you will be less likely to hold onto excess stuff and hurtful feelings, letting go much easier and cluttering up your energy much less.

Enhance Empathy to Create Harmony With Feng Shui

People strong in Earth are empathic, generous, cooperative, diplomatic, and dependable. All essential qualities to a balanced, rich life.

The area of the feng shui grid that houses Earth energy is the center "square" when you overlay the nine equal squares of the feng shui tic-tac-toe board on your floor plan. It is known as the Nurturing Area.

The symbol for this area is the sun, as life can only exist with its nurturing energy.

The most important parts of the home to assess regarding Nurturing/Earth energy are the Kitchen and the Family Room. Are they warmly inviting?

One way you can know if others find your Kitchen and Family Room inviting is if they hang out there. If they don't, it's not.

This may mean the furniture isn't as comfortable to them as it may be to you. Or the furniture may be comfortable, it just doesn't look comfortable. It could be the arrangement of the furniture. The lighting may be too strong, too weak, too glarey. Or perhaps, if you're very Earthy, there are so many accessories the eye has nowhere to rest.

The gentlest way to add Earth is through color. Earth colors are browns, yellows, peach, and taupe.

If you're low in Earth energy, consider starting a collection. A person strong in Wood will collect something useful like key chains or night lights. If you're strong in Metal you will be relieved to know a collection can be made up of as few as three items. Natural crystals selected for metaphysical reasons, first, and their beauty second, comprise a Watery collection.

Another aspect of Earth energy is groundedness. In feng shui this means furniture that looks heavy or is made of stone materials. Overstuffed sofas qualify. As do granite countertops, although the color of the granite may tip their elemental balance to another element.

The essence of a person strong in Earth is their deep and abiding desire for others to feel comfortable. Their biggest challenge is nurturing themselves, first. They love to feed people. People strong in Earth will have more serving dishes, platters, trays, and entertaining paraphernalia that people strong in the other four elements, combined.

Since the center of the grid is also where the Present time resides, it is important to look at what is in the center of your home, the Kitchen and Family Room. Do the items there support your Present life? Or does they tie you to your past? Are you reminded of your current and future goals or "ancient history"?
